Nightlife, drugs and Lao girls in Vang Vieng

Ready to hear about one of the wildest towns I’ve ever been to? Here it comes…

Just came back to Thailand after a week in Laos. My VISA were up and I needed to get a new one.  I’m currently relaxing in Nong Khai after a wild week. However, Songkran is starting tomorrow so it wont be much time for relaxing.

Vang Vieng is a place I’ve never heard about until I came to the capital of Laos. When I was at my hotel a guy told me about this crazy town 150km north of the capital where you can pretty much do anything you want.

Drugs are sold blatantly in many bars. Alcohol is basically free. You can drive drunk and high. In daytime people are tubing down the river, while the locals set up temporary bars along the riverbank where you can get wasted on alcohol, marihuana, mushrooms, opium and laughing gas.

OF COURSE I had to check out such as place. I jumped on a bus and 4 hours later I arrived just before sunset. 😀

Vang Vieng

Nightlife in Vang Vieng

The Blue Lagoon

Vang Vieng is a paradise for backpackers and other people who like to take it to the edge. People start drinking at 10 am while tubing down the river. They continue to do this until the bars open at around sunset.

You will find bars all over Vang Vieng. Small bars, big bars, simple nightclubs, restaurants and hostels that serve alcohol. However, some bars are more popular than others, and some bars have more ‘happy stuff’ on the menu. I will tell you everything you need in this nightlife guide for Vang Vieng.

Most bars open around 19.00 when it gets dark and are open until after midnight.

Popular bars

Sakura Bar

Sakura Bar
Sakura Bar

Sakura bar is probably the most popular bar in town. The reason is simple. They offer totally free drinks from 19.00 to 20.00. There is no twist or condition. Just meet up in the bar at this time, and you will get free whisky for an entire hour.

The bar has a cool design with a dancing floor in the middle, while in the backyard there is a big area with lower volume you can sit while talking with people. In the front there was long tables where people played beer pong.

Free drinks: 19.00 – 20.00
Happy hour: 20.00 – 21.00
Open: 19.00 – 00.00

Viva Pub

Viva Pub
Viva Pub

Viva Pub is another popular bar in Vang Vieng. This place offer free drinks from 22.00 to 23.00. Everyday there was a stream of people who walked from Sakura Bar to Viva Pub so they could get the free drinks there also.

This place is more like a nightclub. There is almost no seating, just a big dance floor indoors. The sound system is decent, but I think they played waaay to loud.

Free drinks: 22.00 – 23.00
Happy hour: 23.00 – 00.00
Open: 20.00 – 01.00

Offbeat Club

Offbeat Club
Offbeat Club

This place had just opened. It looked pretty dope. The sound system was awesome and the decorations and lights looked very good.

However, one thing was missing; people.

And I think I know the reason. Most people who come to Vang Vieng are backpackers on very low budgets. People drank as much as they could when Sakura Bar and Viva Pub had free drinks, just to save some bucks.

Then most people stayed those bars after free drinks as there was already a lot of people there and a lot of fun.

Open: 20.00 – 01.00

There was a lot of hot girls all around town every night. Thai girls, Chinese girls, Korean girls, Japanese girls and Western girls. At midnight most of them was so wasted on alcohol and mushrooms that you could literally pull them out of the bar and guide them gently to your bedroom.

The same is true for the guys. They were way too wasted and did not really hit on girls. So if you take it a little bit easy on the drugs you have a big advantage. You can get a lot of flags in this town.

Alternative bars

Milan Pizza

Milan Pizza
Milan Pizza

Milan Pizza is just on the opposite side of Viva bar. This place was not popular because of free drinks or an awesome dance floor.

Milan Pizza is one of the few bars that offers a ‘happy menu’. Marihuana, opium and mushrooms can be bought here at any time when the bar is open. As long as you take the drugs inside the bar police will not harass you.

You could also buy happy pizza, happy soup or happy pancake. It’s really up to you.

Rasta bar

Rasta bar
Rasta bar

Just like Milan Pizza. This place offer an alternative menu with a lot of different drugs.

This place blast out reggae all day long.

This was the only place I saw that is making fruit shakes with mushrooms or marihuana.

Space bar

Space Bar
Space Bar

This was probably the most popular bar in Vang Vieng that offered an alternative meny.

This place was full of people from early afternoon until midnight. Just being close to this bar, and you could smell the marihuana.

I’m all for legalizing drugs. I think adults should have the right to decide what substance they want to poison their body with. Alcohol or whatever. Taking drugs is an act without a victim, and it’s just stupid to punish people for it. Save the prisons for the rapists and murderers.

When that is said. People react very different on different drugs, and when you take more than one drug at a time it can quickly become overwhelming, especially if you are not used to taking drugs. Every night there was people freaking out after taking mushrooms. Mushrooms is not dangerous, but it will make you see and feel things you probably aren’t prepared for.

Also. Always stay inside the bars. As soon as you go outside the bars with any drugs, there are local police / mafia in civilian that will pull you away and take you to the police station.

The current bribe for getting busted with drugs in Vang Vieng is 5 million kip (600 dollar). That is roughly a one year salary for an average police man in Laos, and it will absolutely hurt most people’s travel budgets.

Special Events

Jungle Party

Jungle Party
Jungle Party

Every Friday night there is a jungle party around 3 km outside town.

There is a dance floor that is decorated in trees and bushes, a African man that plays drums and several bars where you can buy alcohol. That’s what I remember from that place.

Every bar sell tickets to the event. Tuktuk drivers pick up people outside Viva Pub and Milan Pizza.

Bar along the river

Tubing is another very popular activity in Vang Vieng. You basically take a tuk-tuk 4km upstream, then you tube down the river until you reach the town again. A long the river bank there will be many temporary bars set up where you can take a drinking break from the tubing.

I’ve heard this activity was much wilder in the old days with hundreds, even thousands of people tubing down the river daily. Then people started to die and it hit the international news. NGO’s started to complain then everything got shut down.

However, there are still some tubing activities going on, and personally I think it was pretty wild even today.

Hookers in Vang Vieng

There is a redlight district hidden just outside town. I found this place totally random while driving around on my motorbike.

It was about 7-10 small stalls with around 5 to 10 girls in each. I asked mamasan about prices. It could be anything from 150.000 to 750.000 kip. The white skinned girls was the most expensive, if she was hot or not didn’t matter.

There was a lot of cute young girls here. They looked really confused when I came there so I don’t think white guys come there very often. I did see some guys go with girls here the 15 minutes I was here, all was Asian guys.

Freelancers in Vang Vieng

There were freelancers in the bars and in the streets. However, many of them were ladyboys from Thailand coming here to party and maybe make som extra cash on the side. I also met som Thai girls that would go with me to the hotel for 1500 baht.

However, I didn’t see the need as there were plenty of drunk girls around ready for some fun for free.

Happy ending massage

I had several massages when in the parlors that was close to the popular bars. None of them offered any type of happy ending. You even shared room with other men so something more ‘fun’ would not be possible here.

Several tuktuk drivers offered me to take me to ‘good massage’, so I’m sure there exist something, but I didn’t find it myself.

Lao girls in Vang Vieng

Soo.. What’s up with Lao girls?

Lao girls has to be some of the most beautiful girls I’ve ever encountered. They carry themselves with such style and elegance that you just end up staring at them until it gets almost creepy. I almost drove of the road several times when I drove past groups of Lao girls.

I talked with several Lao girls, and while they were shy, their smiles could light up the dark side of the moon. Not to forget that they were very friendly. Most of them wear the traditional dress, the sinh, that covers up most of their body.

This dress is not supposed to be sexy, but I still found it sexy in a strange way. 😀

They are all tall, skinny, have big lips, big smiles, perfect make up, red lips and perfect posture.

There is just one big problem….

Yes, you need to be married and have the proper documents in order before you can bang a Lao chick. I met several cute Lao chicks in the bars around Vang Vieng, but I was very hesitant on bringing them back to my hotel.

I talked with many of the foreigners that worked in the bars there, and it’s totally normal that the hotels call the cops as soon as you enter with a Lao girl. They will raid your hotel while you are banging her, and they will meet up with flashlights and cameras so they have proof.

Any foreigners who bang a Lao chick risks paying up to 5000 dollars in fines / bribes to local police chiefs. That’s big money… 🙁

Not only that. The girl you banged risks ending up in prison without trial for a very long time and she will be considered ‘de-flowered’ by her entire village. Not cool.

If you want to meet Lao girls you are much better of in Thailand. There is a ton of them there. You wont get in trouble for banging them in Thailand and their family still think they are virgins. In Nong Khai and Udon Thani there are ton of Lao girls that works in bars and restaurants. Take your pick.

Daytime activities

There is a lot of activities in daytime except tubing. The scenery in Vang Vieng is some of the most beautiful and untouched nature I have ever seen. You have blue lagoons, caves, mountain tops, rural villages and amazing scenery everywhere ready to be explored!

Renting a motorbike is cheap and just as easy as in Thailand. Traffic is very calm so I absolutely recommend doing that.

Here are some scenery pictures I took on this trip. Click the pictures for full size.

If you are thinking about doing some serious exploring with motorbike I do recommend buying a medical mask. This place is very dusty and you will get itchy in your throat after some days.

You also want to be back before sunset as there are no street lights as soon as you are outside Vang Vieng. Most villages don’t even have electricity.

Vang Vieng has potensial!!

Now imagine this. Every weekend a ton of tourists comes to Vang Vieng to let loose. What happens in Vang Vieng stays in Vang Vieng. Really, the place doesn’t even have decent Internet!!

I met girls here from Korea, China, Japan, Thailand, Singapore, all over Europe and the US. People come here for all kind of reasons. The nature, the rivers, mountain climbing, tubing and getting wasted on drugs.

At night everyone ends up in the two most popular bars, Sakura Bar and Viva Pub. They all get wasted on free whisky, mushrooms and weed. Most girls stay in cheap dorms with no AC.

Then you come around telling girls about your air conditioned bachelor pad a stone’s throw away. You have cheap whisky ready in the refrigerator and a very comfortable king-sized bed ready for action!

You’d be king in town !!!

Yes, there are downsides to this town. It’s very dusty, there is almost no infrastructure, the place have no decent hospital and the mongering is limited.

But who cares..? I’m not saying you should stay there forever. Staying 3-4 months would be plenty, you could get a ton of flags at nighttime and cruise around on your beaten up motorbike in day time. That’s freedom! 😀

Vang Vieng had a small expat community, so you wont be alone up there either. Most of them are professional drugs addicts while they ‘work’ in the bars (keeps the bar running while they get free food, a place to stay and alcohol in return). That way they can stay on the road a little longer.

However, I met some motivated expats up there who was really trying to start up their businesses. One guy had a computer with VR glasses. A lot of tourists wanted to try that while they were high on mushrooms and/or weed. He made a lot of money.

Testing out a flotation tank in Bangkok

What’s up guys? 😀

If you are in Bangkok, and you want to try something that is even more relaxing than an oil massage, I have some good news to you.

It’s called a flotation tank, and yeah.. That is exactly what you do. You float inside a tank.

This is basically how it works

When you arrive you’ll get a room for yourself with a shower and a tank. After you are done with showering you jump inside the tank completely naked.

When you are inside the tank you will float like a wine cork because the water is very salty. You turn of the lights, put ear plugs in the ears and relax.

The water is the same temperate as you skin, so after a while you won’t feel the water.

You will not see anything, hear anything and because you float, and don’t feel the water, it feels like you’re weightless. The session can last anything from 1 hour to 4 hours. It’s up to you.

Why would you do this…?

It’s extremely relaxing. When you get out of that tank you will feel like you were given a new body. All tensions are gone, all neck and back pain are gone and you will feel very alert when you get out.

If you are working hard on something, and you feel really tired and tense. Lets say you had a 8 hour session on a computer…  A couple of hours in that tank would solve all your problems.

It’s also a good place to think, without getting distracted. You can think out plans, business ideas, if the Thai girl you are with are the right one :P,  or anything else that you have on your mind.

Another funny thing that will happen for a lot of people are hallucinations. The reason for this is because your brain don’t feel anything from the outer surroundings. This is not a normal state for the mind, so your brain goes nuts.

All nerve impulses from the outside world stops, so your brain starts to use all that energy on the nerves inside the brain instead. Therefor hallucinations.

A lot of people take drugs when they are inside these tanks. If you want to do that is really up to you. I’ve heard you can have some really intense trips if you combine hallucinogens and flotation tanks.

marijuana, LSD, mushrooms, DMT etc. It’s really up to you.

Bangkok Flotation Center
Bangkok Flotation Center

I went to a place called Bangkok Flotation Center. You can find their webpage here. This place was a pain in the ass to find, but it was totally worth it.

I’ve been here three times now, and I really enjoy spending time in that tank.

You should take the BTS train to Udon Suk station towards Bearing. From there it’s about 10 minutes with taxi.

I talked with the dude that owned the shop, and he said that they would move the studio in some months, so if you are reading this in the future you should double-check the location.

Location Report | Cambodia – Siem Reap

What’s up guys? 😀

Today I will tell you about Siem Reap, and with that Location Report, I’m up in two countries here at Goodbye Boring Life. World domination is right around the corner. 😀

Outside Ankor Wat
Outside Ankor Wat

As you probably know. Siam Reap is where you will find famous ruins of Angkor Wat.

I don’t care how many temples you have seen in Asia. Angkor Wat is just something you have to experience and see before you die. Pictures of this place doesn’t give it justice!

The next 6 days I spent on drinking, exploring and checking out what this town had to offer for a guy that want to say goodbye to his boring life.

This trip was my first trip ever to Cambodia. I have to be honest, it was very different from what I expected it to be.

I expected it to be much more like Thailand, but I felt that I was in some African country next to Congo, and not on the doorstep to Thailand.

People here seemed much more poorer, there was red-ish dust and gravel everywhere on the roads just like in Kenya, the hospitals looked like something out of a horror movie, people where missing body parts all over the place and people sprayed exhaust in the streets to kill the mosquitoes.

Siam Reap

When that is said. The local people here that I met was very friendly. The tuktuk driver we had when we were visiting Angkor Wat was the greatest guy I ever met.

Another thing that struck me was how much more slow-life Cambodia was compared to Thailand, especially Bangkok. I had not been out of Bangkok for almost 4 weeks when I visited Siem Reap. It was nice because everything was so green and the air was a million times fresher.

Traffic was chill as fuck and everyone was driving super slow. Not like in Thailand where everyone is driving like they have a Godzilla on meth hunting them.

Available girls (2/5)

Normal girls (non hookers)

I met a really cute girl at the hotel I stayed at. Unfortunately I could not hit on her because I had a Thai girl with me already.

If you like dark-skinned girls Cambodia would be paradise for you. Most people here are very dark-skinned compared to Thailand. I also think that the Khmer girls were slightly more chubby than Thai girls. They have rounder face, bigger lips, bigger tits etc.

One thing that was very positive with the Khmer girls was that they spoke very good English. I think that is so strange. You have Thailand that is fairly developed with a big tourist industry, but at the same time they suck in English on average.

Go to Cambodia and 5-year-old street kids talk English like they have bachelor degree in the language. I met 5-year-old kids here that spoke better English than doctors in Thailand. I don’t get it.

The monger scene in Siem Reap was quite sad. If you come to Siem Reap from Pattaya, Phuket or Bangkok you are going to have nasty surprise.

There are some freelancers in the area around pub street, but its really bad. The hookers are not hot at all, and I would never put my dick in most of them. They did not seem to enjoy their work or trying to make you happy at all.

I met one girl who was decent looking, and I ended up bringing her back to my hotel. This was my last night in Siem Reap and I could not leave the country without trying a local girl.. 😀 Need to plant my flag everywhere I go you know.. 😛

She was a little chubby but I gave her a good session. At the end she finished me off with a decent blowjob. I ended up cumming all over her face. 😛 Poor little thing.

Party situation (3/5)

Yes, thank you!
Yes, thank you!

I would say that the party situation here was decent. It’s not the high energy that you will find in Phuket, Pattaya or any other major tourist destination in Thailand. But I had fun.

Bub street had a lot of interesting and funny bar concepts. The street had a good but slow life vibe, and it had people from all over the world here. Backpackers, expats, mongers, couples mixed with street food and freelancers. Everyone having a good time.

One bar that I noticed was “Angkor What?”. Really interesting bar with an awesome design and vibe. I actually met an American girl here in her 20’s that WORKED there as a bartender. I did not expect that!

She said that she had just come here on vacation, and she liked it so much here that she never went home again. She never told me how she got the job, or how she got the visa that allows here to work in Cambodia. Maybe she was full of bullshit, I have no idea.

From what I’ve heard it’s much easier to get visa’s in Cambodia than in Thailand. It’s possible to buy a one year business visa here. You don’t need a business. You just buy it online, and you can stay for a year! That is awesome!

Stuff to do (2/5)

Okay. Time to talk about why everyone goes to Siem Reap.

Angkor Wat

This temple was amazing. Even if you have seen enough temples for a lifetime this is still something I would recommend everyone to see. Angkor Wat is on the scale of the pyramids in Egypt. It’s enormous. Not only are the temples impressing, but they also build a dam around this fucking thing. How the fuck did some village people 3000 years ago dig out all that dirt??

Perfect lines and details.
Perfect lines and details.

The second day I was in the Angkor I had been smoking a good amount of weed and I became really philosophical about all of it. How the fuck did they build it?

When you are walking inside the temples, you will come across spots that haven’t been sabotaged by robbers, warriors and weather throughout the ages.

The stones are perfectly made. You could not get a needle between the stones and the details are almost creepy perfect. How did they do it..?

Good luck getting a hair between those stones
Good luck getting a hair between those stones

On the outside the temples look kind of simple, but as soon as you get inside, where wind and rain could not erode the stones, it’s a different game. It fuck with your head and makes you think about human history.

Maybe there was another civilization long time ago that are not in our history books? Maybe it was aliens? Trust me, you will have those thoughts when you wander inside Angkor Wat.

I have a hard time believing this was made with copper tools and sheer manpower, which is the official theory the guides will tell you. It’s to massive and perfect made.

Smoking weed

If you like to smoke weed Cambodia is probably your country in southeast-Asia. As I understood it smoking weed here is practically legal. I talked with a lot of tuktuk drivers about it. Some said it was no problem at all, some said you should be a little careful because some police officers could stop you and extort money from you.

According to Wikipedia marijuana is still illegal in Cambodia, but it is decriminalized. Meaning you should not have any trouble walking around with some pot on you.

Everyone was selling it quite openly, and you could ask any tuktuk driver or bartender. There was several restaurants in Siem Reap that sold ‘happy pizza’ with pot baked into it. 😀 People were smoking in bars, streets and in the temples. I could smell marijuana everywhere.

By the way, last time I ate marijuana (in Amsterdam) I ended up puking all night in the hotel while I was tripping balls for 8 hours. I kept it to smoking this time, no ‘happy pizza’ for me.. 😛

Noon Night Marked

20160705_211113Next to pub street was a big area with a night marked. This place sold everything from food to art.

I even saw a couple of foreigners here selling their art to tourists.

Kind of strange to see white people working in markets like this because I’m so used to Thailand were foreigner can’t work jobs like that. If you sat up a street booth in Thailand at a marked you would be arrested within an hour. 😛

Other stuff to do
Locals watching TV
Locals watching TV

This is were Siem Reap is loosing me. There seems to be nothing to do here. It’s fun to come here for some days to check out the temples and hanging out in pub street. But except from that it’s not much to do here.

As soon as you go outside Siem Reap there is nothing there. Just endless fields of rice fields and farmers. Siem Reap is a small city and after staying here for some days you have really rounded the city.

Everything in Siem Reap seems to evolve around Angkor Wat. Without Angkor Wat Siem Reap would just be an unknown dot on the map.

I could never live here for that reason. I would become claustrophobic and get bored to death.

Cost of Living (3/5)

I would say that the prices in Siem Reap was about the same as Chiang Mai in Thailand. The difference is that everything is much more worn out in Siem Reap. The infrastructure sucks, some roads don’t even have asphalt, sometimes the water stops working and the power cuts off. That’s why this place gets a worse score then Chiang Mai. You get less for your money here.

Owning a motorbike here most be a living hell because it would shut down much faster from all the dust and gravel.

View from hotel room
View from hotel room

I stayed at a 5 star hotel when I was here. The hotel was awesome. Had big rooms, good bathroom, had steam shower, bath tub, swimming pools and a lot of tasty food.

I choose this hotel because I got it extremely cheap on Agoda. You can find the hotel here. The name is Angkor Paradise Hotel.

Food was good and cheap. Local food was about the same price as local food in Thailand. 1-2 dollars for a dish with some meat, rice and vegetables.

Safety (4/5)

I felt that this was a pretty safe city to stay in. One thing that I really noticed here was how calm the traffic was compared to Thailand. People drove super slow all over the place. Can’t be much accidents on the roads here compared to some other countries in the region.

Motorbike tourist scam

First I wanted to rent motorbikes to use in Angkor What. Since I had no idea how renting motorbikes works in Cambodia I had to ask a tuktuk driver for a good place to rent.

The driver took us there for free, and guess what. He drove us right into an overpriced tourist scam.

The shop that rented the bikes wanted 1000 baht!!! per day. That is like 5 times more expensive than the average renting price in Thailand. The bikes also looked like complete shit and I would not trust driving it for a second.

Unfortunately I don’t have a picture of that scam shop because my phone was out of battery. The shop looked professional and the people working there even had uniforms. Looked like a serious tourist shop that sold tours and also rented out bikes.

The shop had like blue signs all over the place, all the people who worked there had blue uniforms. So watch out for that shop! Probably the only shop in Siem Reap that had so much blue on it. Should be easy to spot. 😛

Anyways, we ended up not renting bikes at all, and we rented a tuktuk driver instead for the two days we were in Angkor Wat. He wanted 1300 baht for the job (both days), but we ended up giving him 2000 because he was awesome!

Getting sick in Siem Reap

Try to avoid it. I walked past some of the clinics in this city and it looked like something from a horror movie. If you get sick in this city I would try to get back to Bangkok as fast as possible.

Here is a picture of one of the best clinic I found:

No thanks, send me to Bangkok
No thanks, send me to Bangkok

So, what can I make out of Siem Reap???

I had an awesome time the 10 days I was here, but I think I could never live there or even stay long-term. The city is so confined up there north in Cambodia, there is nothing around the city, it’s inland far away from any beaches and the city is quite small.

Still, I recommend everyone to visit the city for some days! Angkor Wat is really a must-see, even for people who don’t give a damn about temples.
